I got every single workout in this week! Not bad considering I was coming off being sick and now that sickness is making it's rounds through the family. It felt good to cross off each of those days. There were some days that I was pretty tired but overall I felt pretty good.
The one workout I hate the most is the long bike ride because it's indoors. I have my old road bike set up on a trainer and every week, I add another 5 miles to the ride. In my head, 5 miles on a bike is not that hard, but doing it inside on a trainer makes it about 400 times harder! Added to my misery is that our new house doesn't have the awesome set up we had in the old basement with a large projector screen that allowed us to watch tv while we pedaled away. It also doesn't come with any awesome friends willing (and crazy enough) to come keep me company. I keep telling myself it's how I'm working on my mental game, but the bike sessions are looooong.
So to break it up a little, I like to listen to podcasts. They'll vary depending on my mood and how much motivation I need. I just found one by Dr Phil and he said something profound this week that I really liked. He was talking about what the difference was between people who just think about doing something and people who actually do it. And he asked "Is this something that you are dreaming about? Talking about every chance you can? Imagining what it will look like when it's happening and after it's happening?"
This dream has been in my head going on 7 years now. I can feel the moment I turn the corner and the finish line is up ahead. I can see the faces of my kids and Wade and my parents all standing there. I can imagine what it will feel like when I cross that finish line and I accomplish the greatest goal I have set forth. I can't believe it's coming up in less than 18 months!
So yes, Dr. Phil. This is that kind of dream!
Weekly Totals
Swim: 5,999 yds
Bike: 4:05 (40 mile long)
Run: 24.3 miles
Workout of the Week
Swimming has always been my weakest sport of the three in triathlon. I am just not very good at it. But this year, I have tried to figure out how to be *more efficient* if not *faster* so that I can conserve my energy for the rest of the race.
In January, I had a swim analysis done that was very eye opening. Just from that I've seen my swimming improve ten-fold. I might not be that much faster, but I have energy when I exit the pool. That's huge!
Tuesday, I missed my normal Master's swim time (5:30 am!) and went to the 9:30 am class instead. I would almost permanently switch to this one if I didn't have friends already in the other one. And it eats up my mornings. But, it's a little less intense and so the coach has some more time to work with you one on one. She made a note about my head position and it FINALLY hit what she was saying. Hallelujah. Just one more thing to adjust that will hopefully help come May 4th!
Thank goodness for these little moments that keep me going when the training is bearing down on me and I am rethinking this whole thing!
