Chugging Along (Week 9 and 10 2018)

There's only 8 weeks until the marathon and we're right in the spot in the training where it's far enough away to not be able to see the finish line but the miles are still upticking every week.  It feels like it's going to go on forever!

The last two weeks, we've broken our long run into two days.  My hope is that this will limit my burnout and I will be able to keep going through the summer to hit our fall marathon.  All the other marathons I've done, I've quit running for months at a time because of the burnout.  I'm not feeling the burnout yet, so that's good.

We do 12 miles on Friday and then 6-8 miles on Saturday.  My Friday runs have been going awesome!  I feel strong and at ease.  We aren't pushing the pace, but our overall time is dropping.  I think I have the nutrition down.  I feel like I could keep going after the 12.  This week especially.

However, my Saturday runs have been miserable.  It's hard to get out of bed.  I'm tired and achy.  I slog most of it.  There were a few redeeming moments in yesterday's run, but not many.  I know this is 100% tied to my refueling after Friday.  My appetite is usually suppressed after long runs, and so it's hard to get in all the calories to then turn around and do it again the next day.  It's something I need to figure out because this is what training for the Ironman is going to look like.

In other news, I am down almost 17 pounds from the beginning of the year!  This has made such a huge difference.  I feel so much better when I'm out hitting the pavement.  I have a new appreciation for those trying to lose weight.  This has been the hardest thing I have ever done.  It's so demoralizing to work SO hard and then to see 1 or 2 pounds gone on the scale.  It's definitely a marathon and I want to see a sprint!!  I would really like to lose another 25 pounds, so I'm going to keep at it.  6 weeks in to the challenge Hillary and I are doing with her husband's work and I'm finally not craving crap as much.  That's a good sign!

I'm just chugging along out here. I'm firming up my race plan for Ogden and what to concentrate on after.  It's going to be a good spring and summer!
