Valentine's Day (Week 7 2018)

It was another good week.  I had some great workouts.  I'm feeling stronger.  I've lost more than 10 pounds since January 1.  People are starting to notice and comment.  Things feel like they are gelling.

This week was Valentine's Day.  In my house, this is kind of a crapshoot holiday.  I get something lame for Wade and he wows me with something awesome and totally out of the blue.  Usually things I don't even know I need until I open them on February 14.

This year was no different.  I opened a card with a gift certificate to SwimLabs, a place that specializes in swim training.  It's the first real acknowledgement that Wade has given me that I am doing an IRONMAN!  It's no secret that the swim is what I struggle in the most.  I have the endurance but it completely wears me out for the other two events.  Last year at Daybreak I DNFed because I was so worn out from the swim.  To finish this race I need help in the swim and now I have some place to go.  I'm so excited to try it out.

We did a 15 mile long run this weekend.  Hillary drove down and we averaged a pretty good pace.  It was hard, but I feel so much stronger than I have in recent years.  I think it's helped I've taken basicallly two years off from racing and found my motivation again.  I haven't missed a run workout yet!  I'm not as fast as I would like to be, but if I can finish Ogden feeling strong, then I know I can speed things up.

This summer, after Ogden, I'd like to work on my swimming and my biking.  I'll have a little more freedom because the kids will be home from school and the schedule is a lot looser.  Also, I'm missing that sunshine!  It's been a mild winter but there's something but starting a run in the dark and then ending it in the sunlight that makes me a happy girl.

This next weekend, Hillary and I are doing our first major race together since the 2015 Haunted Half when she told me she was pregnant with William.  I'm not expecting any land speed records.  I just want to finish it strong.  Plus it's a getaway to St. George.  I need a trip down there every winter to recharge my batteries.

Happy miles!
